How
we got started
We bought our first computer - a second-hand Pentium 75 (old
& slow!!), in February 2000 and after getting on-line,
started to trawl the net for information on one of our hobbies,
collecting Salvation Army memorabilia. Guess what?! We found
absolutely nothing!
With a wish and many prayers we decided to
construct our own site as we felt there must be many more
collectors who would welcome a source of information and
support. Professional web design and hosting were definitely not
in the budget (even if we knew how to get it!) but we had free
web space with our ISP (YIPPEE!!)
Having assessed that we had
free web space and a very old and slow computer we came to a
halt. How do you actually design a web site?
With the help of a
very patient neighbour, whom we bored to death with endless
silly questions, like 'What does this button do?!' we actually
got a whole four pages up and running (SUCCESS!!) Although
they were not what you'd call very professional, (dodgy
backgrounds!!) we actually had a website!
As you may or may not
be aware the site has come a long way since those early days and
we actually know what all the little buttons do!! (Well, most of
them anyway)
We have invested in another computer (new &
fast!) and some cool little bits of software to help us on the
way. The site always seems to be growing and we always welcome
suggestions for additional pages.
Seriously though, we believe
that interest in Salvation Army collectables and artifacts is on
the increase. This site is our attempt to spread the interest
even wider and to bring together individuals with similar
collecting interests.
