Editorial
This Journal is the culmination of several months work with contributions from around the world. I want to thank all those who have offered articles and the various people who have proof read, made suggestions and given help. Our philatelic expert Mr. Alex de Langen has been at hand to answer questions while Major Mike Farrow has corresponded at length with Heritage Centres and others around the world. There have also been many who have given helpful advice and encouragement in this project and in particular I wish to thank our president Harry Hayes, Dr Norman Murdoch (U.S.A.), Dr Roger Green (U.S.A.), Lindsay Cox (S.A. Archives, Australia), David and Del Miller (U.K.), Gordon Taylor (S.A. Archives, International Heritage Centre, London) and Bandmaster Colin Waller (U.K.).
Such is the growing interest in Salvation Army history that the Association finds itself busy in answering a large number of queries. The speediest though happened in mid November when an Australian lady e-mailed a family history request. 1 was on-fine and the relevant books were to hand in relation to another matter which meant an immediate reply was possible. The lady was delighted, especially as our photo-bank was able to supply pictures. So, do ask! Do please keep us up-to-date with personal projects, interests and interesting finds. Also, if help is needed in any area such as (has happened recently) taking pictures of halls be demolished, finding rare recordings, giving interviews - in short, anything - let us know. With a world-wide membership and a vast range of interests, we will find somebody to help.
Thank you to all those who commented so kindly on the first Association newsletter, Booth's Drum. It was well received and production has started on the Spring Edition (article deadline Ist. March please). Requests for a back copy to the Editor please. In the newsletter we mentioned the possibility of a Convention. There were several responses and we are investigating holding a Convention, in London, possibly on 30th June 2007. Two venues are being considered and priced. Please do feel free to volunteer to give a talk.
As Editor, may I again thank you all - please continue to enjoy and spread the word about our glorious heritage. Have a happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year.
