Volume Two   . . . .

Editorial

A warm welcome to the second Journal of the S.A. Historical and Philatelic Association. Interest in our history continues to gather pace and we hope that this Journal reflects some of that. I am, as always, grateful to a number of people for their help and in particular to Major Mike Farrow for his tireless efforts on our behalf. Others to mention are Alex de Langen and Geoff Maxwell, Lindsay Cox, Terry Hazell and David and Del Miller. Thank you also to all our members.

This year's Journal commences with a story found quite by chance recently in the UK. The typed manuscript made such interesting reading that it was decided to reproduce it as found. For our philatelist members, we have news of two very exciting stamp issues. There is also a very important discussion on this aspect of our Association.

The ever popular review and list of Salvation Army books has again been painstakingly compiled by Major Mike Farrow who in addition wrote the early day history of Manningtree Corps. Member Kevin Keast has produced an excellent and informative piece of work on 1965 Salvation Army stamps.

Many members may well remember that Alex de Langen has been working on various aspects of Salvation Army philately and related ephemera and we reproduce here part of his collection. He would like to hear from anyone who has an interest in this aspect.

I am personally delighted to be able to review member Ken Elliott's brilliant book on Eliza Shirley which from its inception was supported by the SAHPA. Its production should be seen as a boost for the work of the SAHPA. Finally, interspersing these articles are a couple of short but we hope interesting pieces.
