Army Flags
The editorial staff are collecting information on the number and range of Salvation Army flags held by members. Each flag is unique and represents part of our glorious heritage so it is quite right that they are preserved. It is believed that some rare and early examples are in collections and as the Association sometimes receives requests to see if certain flags have survived, it seemed a good idea to hold such a register. Certain of our members are also flag collectors so if anyone has any for sale, do let us know.
One flag seen recently is that of the Salvation Army Mens Social Work "Middlesex Street Hostel London". This was the only Hostel situated in the City of London. It was destroyed by fire in July 1983 and so there will never ever be a flag quite like this one. Middlesex Street is also known on Sunday as Petticoat Lane, so this Hostel watched over the goings on in Petticoat Lane for many, many years. The pictures below were taken on the night Middlesex Street was burnt down.
