Our People – The Story of William and Catherine Booth and The Salvation Army.
By Major Mike Farrow
I was privileged to attend the premiere of this new documentary, which has been produced by the Australia Eastern Territory. This has been five years in the making, and presents the story of the early days of The Salvation Army for a new generation. Eminent Salvation Army Historians who have taken part include Dr Roger Green, Diane Winston, Pamela Walker and Dr Glenn Horridge. Also included are pictures some of which have not been seen for almost a century.
The film moves at a cracking pace and covers a remarkable amount of material in it 78 minutes, also included on the DVD are well over an hour of extras. The DVD is region neutral, which means it will play on any machine. I thoroughly enjoyed the film, but if I have one criticism, it is that it does tend to skim over things. Priced at £19-95p it is available from Trade Depts.
Another DVD
Members have informed us that another DVD of interest is entitled: Salvation Army – Music in Their Souls. It lasts 45 minutes and centres around two events, namely, a conference held in Ontario, Canada on the history and future of music in the Salvation Army, and the sinking of the Empress of Ireland in which 167 Salvationists died, including many of the Canadian Staff Band. Priced at C$40.24 including postage to the UK, further information is available at www.musicintheirsouls.com
