was born at Ashbourne, Derbyshire and met William at a meeting of

During the first decade of the 20th century
William Booth conducted several motor tour campaigns in the United
Kingdom. Between 1904 and 1907 he made three such tours traveling
over 5,600 miles and addressing nearly 400 meetings. No mean feat

General William Booth was promoted to Glory
from his Hadley Wood home on August 20th. 1912. At the three day
lying in state at Clapton Congress Hall, 150,000 people filed past
his coffin. On August 27th. his funeral service was held at
London's Olympia. Some 40,000 people attended, including Queen
Mary, who sat almost unrecognized to the rear of the great hall.
The following day the funeral procession set out from
International Headquarters. As it moved off 10,000 uniformed
Salvationists fell into step behind. The massed might of 40
Salvation Army bands played the Dead March from Handel's Saul as
