An Unknown First Day Cover; A New Cinderella
Major Mike Farrow was delighted to receive recently in the post a previously unknown cover from Papua New Guinea. We can now therefore record that there were two covers issued on 14th June 2006. Mike received his through a standing order with Benham’s Stamps, a service which we have recommended before.

A New Cinderella
Since the writing of my article on "SA Cinderellas and Ephemera", we have seen another not-before-reported SA related classic label on a recent e-Bay auction. It is an attractive American label depicting Catherine Booth, the Army Mother, issued in 1943 by the Golden Rule Foundation in New York, NY. The red label is gummed and perforated on four sides. Unfortunately, the details of size and perforation gauge are still unknown, because this 60+ year "novelty" demanded quite a high price in the auction. Hopefully, other copies will see the light of day in the future.
This label may have been one in a series of "famous mothers" and could also have been part of a Mother's Day promotion. One oddity is that the label mentions Catherine to be the mother of General William Booth, while in actuality she was the mother of two generals, (William) Bramwell and Evangeline (Cory). Can any of our members confirm possession of this label in their collections?
