Dubious Covers

At a time when there seems to be an increase in spurious covers and stamps, it is worth remembering that perhaps some collectors have older dubious covers such as those listed at
http://www.sacollectables.com/dubious.html  A number of mainly Great Britain commemorative covers exist about which there is some doubt as to the authenticity.

It would appear that some, if not all of these covers have had the cachet added at a date a considerable time after the postmarked date. Why? Maybe it was thought that adding a cachet would increase the value of the originally produced plain covers, although with relatively small numbers involved it would seem a lot of effort for a small return. Is it perhaps a deliberate attempt to deceive the collector? The truth is we don't really know.

If you wish to collect these covers then fine, as long as you know the background to them it is purely your decision. We offer this information to try to prevent collectors buying covers which are probably not what they purport to be. Whilst we believe that the details on the page are correct, we would welcome any information regarding the authenticity or otherwise of any of these covers.

All cachets are in black and white any many appear to have been reproduced from colour originals on other commemorative covers, and photocopied onto the plain covers.
