Did you know that there is a Salvation Army encyclopaedia online? Just visit SAWiki at
http;//www.sawiki.net for nearly 3,000 pages of information and history about the Salvation Army. SAWiki is the sister site of SACollectables that most of you will be familiar with, and shows all the signs of becoming just as popular.
Once visitors have signed up for an account, they can actually add information and images to the site. You can add information about your corps and its history, pictures of your corps band and songsters to the photo gallery, in fact you can add pretty much anything to do with the Salvation Army. It’s really easy to add to the existing pages or even to create your own, the on site help files are very easy to follow, and if you have any problems you can always e-mail the webmaster for some help.
By e-mailing the webmaster you can even start a new category so the possibilities to add to the site are almost limitless. The ever growing image gallery contains a fabulous range of pictures and prints of bands, songsters, officers and even cartoons from around the world. Every article has its own discussion page where you can ask questions, make suggestions, or discuss corrections. To access this page just click the discussion tab at the top of the page you want to talk about.
Be sure to try out your coding skills in the sandbox, this is the place to practice your wiki coding before you get stuck in to editing "real" pages. It might seem a bit daunting at first but with a little practice you'll be editing wiki code in no time. You can start your own personal page and share your interests with like minded people throughout the world. Graphics are provided to help make your page aesthetically pleasing, and fellow site members can post messages and questions for you on your page. You can add a link to your corps site, and to your personal site if you have one.
Be bold! Have a go. We promise not to get cross if you're coding isn't up to scratch, and there's a nice formatting bar to help you out which contains basic stuff at the click of a mouse. If you think you have something to offer SAWiki then add it. All you need is a free account. Even if you don't think your information is complete, that's OK, that's what SAWiki is all about. You add what you've got and other users expand on that knowledge. Sure, some people submit perfectly polished articles, which is fantastic, but the beauty of this is that often a poorly written first draft will evolve into a polished, and concise article through collaboration between editors. We welcome your valued assistance in building the largest resource for all things Salvation Army. SAWiki is growing fast, but with your help and knowledge it will grow even faster and provide an invaluable knowledge base for all who are interested in SA history.
