News Of Friends

Members will remember Ken Elliott’s work on Eliza Shirley which the Association was instrumental in bringing to the public. This book now sold many thousands of copies and we hear from the USA that it may be turned into a musical. Our congratulations go to Ken who is now working on his family’s Salvation Army history in China.

Another book which the Association helped is ‘My people – The Amazing Adventures of Marty and Max’ by Hugh Bradnam (published by Ammonite Books, Godalming). Bradnam is a pseudonym for retired Colonel Hubert Boardman and we recommend this excellent Young Person’s book. My daughter Fiona (13) read the manuscript and enjoyed the story line of time travel back to meet the young William Booth. Copies of this paperback book can be ordered from the Association at £6.00 including postage.

On a general matter it is interesting that an increasing number of classic Army texts are being republished. Rider Haggard’s classic account of Salvation Army social work, Regeneration and Harold Begbie’s autobiography of the Founder are two examples in recent weeks.

Major Mike Farrow has some spare Korea Salvation Army stamps for sale. They are £2.00 each, including postage. To order, please send a cheque to him at 13 Southbrook Road, Norbury, London. SW16 5QZ

Lt-Col Joan Williams continues her tremendous work at Bookworm Alley – any requests for Army material, new or old, should be addressed to her. I went to visit her recently. It is always a pleasure to browse through the books, periodicals and other items Joan has for sale. All money raised is, of course, used to support the Army’s work in India where she worked for so many years.

Colin Waller has supplied two of the articles here. He has done tremendous work over the years with the SA78 Regal Association and is now working as an Archivist in Inverness. We wish him well in his new post.

David and Del Miller continue to spend countless hours overseeing the sacollectables and sawiki websites – great work. Thank you.

Major Mike Farrow is off to pastures new with an appointment in Sunderland. We will be praying for you and all our friends connected with the Association.
