Editorial
Welcome to Issue 6 of
Booth’s Drum. We have just received news of the Promotion to
Glory of our dear friend and President, Harry Hayes. More
information appears below and I am writing his obituary for The
Salvationist so that his many friends around the world will be
able to pray for Stella and the family. We also send our
condolences to the family.
Best wishes are also sent on behalf of the Association to Terry
Hazell who is undergoing treatment for a serious condition. We
will miss him at our forthcoming Convention. This will take
place on Saturday 18th June at the William Booth Memorial
Complex, Nottingham. Coffee will be served from 10a.m. Please
let me know if you are coming as we have to order the catering.
Cost for the day is £10 and a form is attached as is a
subscription renewal form.
Other Association news: We are excited to announce that we will
be publishing a book within the next twelve months. Although the
Association has been instrumental in a number of publications,
this will be our first major book. It will be based on the
extraordinary life of early Salvationist William Murray who rose
from Salvationist soldier to the top echelons of the Army.
Members will remember that we were on the verge of publishing
the Eliza Shirley story a couple of years ago when the Salvation
Army themselves asked if we would let them have the rights to
the book and this we were delighted to do. However we did retain
the rights to film and radio and the story is in the process of
being made into a radio drama.
