The Museum
Open to the public, the museum gives a pictorial outline of Salvation Army history. Through the use of artifacts, photographs and special techniques, the Army is portrayed as a spiritual movement with a strong social conscience.

The visitor will be given insights into 19th century England and how the founders, William and Catherine Booth, reached out in compassion to the needy multitudes.

One can also see the development of social work, the changes in music making, the disaster of the Empress of Ireland, how the Army served our armed forces and the development of media communications.

Group Tours
Located on the main floor, the museum's educational programme is adapted for all ages from early school grades to senior citizens. School groups, church groups and the community at large are welcome to make arrangements for a tour.
If desired, refreshments will be provided at minimal cost. The staff are qualified to give instruction concerning various areas of interest relating to The Salvation Army.

Archives For Research
The Heritage Center Archives are open to the public for research purposes. Reading areas are available and staff members will provide the necessary material. Please call to confirm appointment

Sources for researchers include The War Cry, The Officer, All the World and other S.A. periodicals. The reference library is available for research only. It includes bibles, devotional literature, missions, history, Booth publications, social and welfare work, biography, orders and regulations and music publications.

Papers and documents:- Subject to certain conditions, Salvation Army records are available for research. Private papers are governed by terms of access placed upon them by the donor.

Photographs:- A large number of photographs have been filed and copied for easy reference. These include people, places and special events.

Oral history:- A cassette library has been developed containing interviews with Salvation Army officers and lay people. Speeches of prominent personalities are also available.

The above by no means exhausts the material housed in the archives. There are copies of disposition of Forces from early days, year books, various officers' rolls, ledgers, journals, brochures, reports, programmes, slides, films, recordings and files containing a great variety of information.

The Salvation Army Historical Society, Canada & Bermuda

The Salvation Army Historical Society was formed in 1986 to create and promote interest in the history of The Salvation Army in the Canada and Bermuda Territory, encourage donations of information and materials of of historical value to the Heritage Centre, assist in the identification and evaluation of this material and to  assist in display development and encourage participation in Heritage Centre programmes  and events.

The Society meets four times a year to exchange ideas and information and to share in the history of The Salvation Army. A newsletter is published every three months, and membership is open to anyone interested in The Salvation Army and its heritage. Membership details available from the address above.
