Other Places Of Interest
The Whitechapel Walkabout:
The Salvation Army began in the East End of London in 1865. A
hundred years ago it would have been easy to trace the steps of
William Booth but many features have changed since then. With a
little imagination, however, the atmosphere of the east End of
1865 can soon be recaptured.
*A guide map is available
from the International Heritage Centre.
Abney Park Cemetery:
The grave of William and Catherine Booth is marked by a bold
Salvation Army shield of blue Pennant sandstone with a guilt
inscription reading: 'William Booth Founder and first General of
The Salvation Army. Born 1829 Born Again of the Spirit 1845.
Founded The Salvation Army 1865. Went to Heaven 20th August 1912'
*Details available from
the International Heritage Centre.
