A musician of considerable experience Colin was taught to play a brass instrument by the late Jim Mountain, then Bandmaster of Sheffield Citadel Band, and transferred to the senior Corps Band at the age of fifteen.

After ten years as a bandsman at Sheffield Citadel, he was invited to fill the position of Songster Leader at Sheffield Langsett Road Corps, which he accepted.

With his wife, Colin completed a two year voluntary youth course with the Local education Authority. Upon completion they founded the Escafeld Youth Band.

That was not without its problems, with no sponsors the only instruments available to them were in need of serious repair and renovation, usually a costly exercise.

Colin found a solution, he enrolled in a course for brass instrument repairs at Leeds College and did the job himself!

He has now been repairing and reconditioning brass instruments for over fifteen years and has earned an international reputation for high quality craftsmanship at an affordable price.
