Salvation Army’s Loss Death of Burnley Convert Who Toured Country. Better known as Rosie Bannister, Mrs. Rose Eastwood, and ardent worker for the Salvation Army cause, died last Tuesday night at her home 158 Branch Road, Burnley. The news will occasion widespread regret, for Rosie Bannister was a living testimony to the valuable work of the Salvation Army, and none worked harder for the cause than did she. The widow of the late Mr. Eastwood, a former herbalist and mineral water manufacturer, Mrs. Eastwood had been connected with the Salvation Army for above 50 years. She was converted at the Accrington Road Corps, and has since rendered valuable service at the Holmes Street Citadel Corps. She traveled all over the British Isles in her capacity of envoy (special preacher). Mrs. Eastwood was such a well-known character that for a number of years her photograph has been in the Townley Museum (Burnley). A service will be held in the Holmes Street Citadel prior to the funeral on Monday.
Well Known Salvationist. Funeral of Rosie Bannister. The funeral took place in the Burnley Cemetery last Monday of Mrs. Rose Eastwood (Rosie Bannister), whose death was reported in last Saturday’s “Express”. Mrs. Eastwood had been connected with the Salvation Army ever since her conversion, which took place at the Accrington Road Corps over 50 years ago, and she was laid to rest with full salvation Army honours. The Citadel Band met at her home and preceded the cortege to the Citadel, where an impressive ceremony was conducted by Adjutant and Mrs. Barrass. The great respect and esteem in which this stalwart Salvationist was held were evidenced in the drawn blinds and lined streets as the procession, still accompanied by the band, made its way through the town streets and the centre of the town. There were people waiting at every point on the route to pay their last respects to one who had been such a wonderful example of the transforming power of Christ. Adjutant and Mrs. Barrass also officiated at the graveside. A memorial service will be held in the Holmes Street Citadel tomorrow night, when the Accrington Road and Citadel Corps will unite.
