Salvation Army Social Work

Social Work In The Salvation Army

Mrs. Bramwell Booth
Florence Booth, born Florence Soper, was the founder of the Woman's Social Work and was it's leader until 1912, when Bramwell Booth succeeded his father as General.

The work was then headed by Commissioner Adelaide Cox. This postcard dates circa 1900 and was published by The Salvation Army

Goodwill Work Centenary 1986
An unusually large postcard, 8" by 6" issued as part of The Salvation Army Goodwill Work Centenary Celebrations of 1986. The postcard is printed from a photograph by Robin Bryant of the mural painted by Frank O. Salisbury in the foyer of the Hoxton Goodwill Centre, London.

The card also shows the special pictorial postmark used to commemorate the event. It was published by The Campfield Press, St. Albans

Social Work In The USA circa 1915
Four postcards from a series depicting various aspects of Salvation Army welfare work in the U.S.A. at the time of the first world war when Evangeline Booth was U.S. Commander.

They were published by the Chicago Daily News probably from pictures taken by their staff photographers

Welfare Work In The USA Today
The welfare work of The Salvation Army continues unabated to this day. This modern postcard shows Mrs. Lt. Col. Spicer accepting offers of canned food for the annual Tree of Lights Food Drive. The card was published by The Salvation Army 3800 Lindell Boulevard, St. Louis, Missouri and the reverse features the Salvation Army Red Shield.
